Massimo
Aiello He was born in Naples on July 22nd, 1966. In the same years he played the snare drum , the percussion and the
trombone with different bands and dance-bands. In 1980 he passed his exam of
trombone and entered the Conservatory “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice. He
attended it for about one year but then he preferred to devote himself to the
study of drums.
In the early 80ies he completed the drums course conducted by
Tullio de Piscopo (see Encyclopedia of Jazz) at the “Centroteatroattivo” in
Milan.
In the second half of 90ies he studied for a short period at the CPM in
Milan, with the drummer Walter Calloni.
In the same period he attended the famous course of Maestro Enrico Lucchini, one of the most appreciated teachers in the world, in years 70’s teacher in the Dante Agostini and Kenny Clarke drum school of Paris, revolutionary teacher for the drum's didactic in Italy and irreplaceable today too.
Aiello has always been interested in musical research and devoted
himself to the enrichment of his basic techniques through a deep personal study. He started teaching
in 1986 and devoted himself to it with
the aim to transfer his musical experiences to his students in his independent drums courses
.
In 1992 he organized the first stage of “Psychology
of rhythm”. He wished to deepen his musical and didactic research
concerning the rhythmic subdivision setting up some systems and concepts
finalised to improve both the drum techniques, the other instruments and voices
in order to help the dialogue, the listening and the study of music as a whole,
at any level. The results of these stages have always been very good as these
methods start to be applied from the very beginning in his drums courses.
He has attended a lot of drum seminars, among which the most important was the one with Gary Chaffee, high level stages were the ones with Peter Erskine, Dave Weckl, Tommy Campbell and others, including ensamble music workshops, the latest of which was under the direction of Tomaso Lama in 2001 and covered Jazz Trio performance.
Some of his musical experiences can be found in the text "Experimental course of guidance to the study of drums - with some didactic schemes - First Part (provisory title)", (carried out between December 1996 and February 1997). It was presented as a lecture note and used by Aiello in his courses together with other methods which he usually uses for teaching, including also some new lesson concepts and more.
This first part after many years of elaboration and improved and then going to be published since year 2002 to year 2005 with good results with the title "Corso Orientativo per Batteria" ("Orientative Drums Course"). In August, 2005 is ready the Second Part of the Orientative Drum Course (carried out between July 2005 and August 2005). It was presented as a lecture note and used by Aiello in his courses for teaching, including also some new lesson concepts and more.
With the two parts together (over 260 pages), after 10 years of experimentation and elaboration, has been improved and since March 2006 directly printed by M. Aiello with international Copyright without editor and distribuited all over Italy by ARES Distribuzione-Verona-Italy with the definitive title of
"METODO COMPLETO PER BATTERIA" ("COMPLETE DRUM METHOD").
Into the Book-Method will be homage annex the Solo CD "TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN - Drum in the Symphony no. 9", from to The soloist show: Tribute to Beethoven, also available separately since September 2001, P&C 2001 Azzurra Music S.r.l. (see Discography).

theatre Pio X in Padua on December 13th, 1987, full hall with over 1000 members

-
in 1995 he participated with this
opera to the famous music concert and classical dance festival at Villa Badoere
(Fratta Polesine - Rovigo, Italy) (some videos
and photos).
With the same opera and with some extracts from “William Tell” by G. Rossini or
“Rite of the Spring” by I. Stravinsky, he participated as a guest to several
festivals or benefit manifestations among which:
-
in 1987-1988 he took part to some
international cultural exchanges
-
in 1988 at the Theatre S. Marco in
Mestre (Venice)
-
in 1989 at the “International fair
of the book” in Pontremoli (MS, Italy). The local news devoted a report to
him

From year
2004 Aiello too adds to TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN the Movements of 5th Symphony
from his soloist
DEMO-CD (of the 2004), "TRIBUTE TO BEETHOVEN 2 - Drum Improvisation On
The Symphony No. 5", unlike the
first one “Drum In The Symphony no.9", as the title suggests “Drum Improvisation On The Symphony no. 5”, this interpretation is
almost completely based on Improvisation “on” the Fifth, instead of following a
real score for drum written and provided whit little improvisation to sound
“within” the 9th Symphony” (listen
